TALKING POINT
-------------
Edited by Reg Bottomslip
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
This is where anybody who is stupid or mad enough can warble on about
Amos thingies until the cows come home and not have to be in the least bit
sensible. Okay it's another letters page, but to start it off I will ramble
on about things called Amos for a while just to get you in the mood.

The following question has cropped up many, many times. In fact I think if
we were all honest most of us at one stage or another have at least pondered
it and that is:
CAN COMPILED PROGRAMS BE UN-COMPILED BACK INTO SOURCE?
Everyone who has ever asked this question has usually been called a big
floppy pink wibble stick , or something similar. But, let's sit back a
moment and give this some thought, after all what goes up must come down!
What goes in must come out, a stitch in time saves nine!! err sorry about
that, forget that last one.
So, the compiler takes your source code and turns it into machine code
routines and lumps it into one executable file. That task in it'self seems
ridicously complex, but to reverse the process? would it really be possible?
It`s not possible, most claim. I am not familiar with the problems that
would be encountered in a De-Compiler (to coin a phrase) program but I have
a feeling that the task MAY be possible but that there are only a few people
in the country (or even world) that have the nessecary knowledge of assembler
AND Amos to acheive such a program. But there is one thing I DO know and that
is whoever does write a De-compiler will make at least, oohh, ten quid.

Continuing on the Amos tools debate, what about the AGA extension? wouldn't
it p*** a certain company off if some smart alec knocked up his own AGA
extension before them! If you ask me someone is turning their back on a
potential money spinner, and in the tail end of a recession!. I told you
there are lot's of mad barst's out there.

We all know AMOS stands for Amiga Operating System and STOS stands for ST
operating System PCOS for PC operating system , what the hell are they going
to call the CD32 version of Amos when it gets a keyboard? CDOS I suppose.
Obviously you could run Amos and Pro on it but there are some new chips
and screen handlers that would need to be taken into account. Probably it
will never be. Anyway Europress don't support Amos anymore.

Continuing this mad half hour, how about a new extension called BONES?
This extension would hold all the essential routines to create all the more
popular game styles, for example if you type in :
SHOOT EM UP, scroller 1,starfield 4, etc etc
You would have half the coding done for you and you would have more time to
concentrate on polishing the game it'self. Right, stop that, this is getting
silly! Okay I submit to the more logical part of my brain (2%) and
I shall not continue. But just remember where you heard it first!
All my best until next issue, Reg.

ANY SIMILAR NONSENSE SHOULD BE DIRECTED TO REG AND NOT THE LETTERS PAGE
AS THAT LOT JUST WOULDN'T UNDERSTAND OUR WAY OF THINKING (COS THEY`RE MAD)
